Apple Jacket

Here is Sydney's Fall jacket. Here in Virginia, it really doesn't get cold until January, but there are some crisp days in November and December. I have found that a corduroy jacket lined with flannel works great. So this will work wonderful with all her Fall apple themed dresses. I have enough of this numbers flannel to make a dress to match this. I think that is what I will work on when I get back from my trip. Oh, how do you just love my cute apple buttons? They are the crowning touch. I have been waiting on them in the mail for a week or so. I was so excited to mark this off my list of things to make.

Okay, off to go do some more laundry and to pack.

Okay, here is another in the apple wardrobe for back-to-school that I have finished. This is an apron style dress with elastic on the puffed sleeves this time. I love these sleeves because of the cute piping detail at the edge. And I smocked a nice plump apple on this Nashville Cotton plaid. It is called Nursery School plaid, which I think fits nicely for my preschooler.
I am thinking this might be my favorite one so far. I don't know if it is the cute red buttons down the back or the puffed sleeves and how they look so sweet on those chubby arms and dimpled elbows. I am also thinking this might be my last year for this style of dress for Sydney. Sniff-sniff! Why does my baby have to grow up? Okay, I digress....

On another front, Sydney and I are leaving for Vegas to visit my parents in a couple of days so I will be out for a week. I hope to get inspired and to finish up some smocking projects while gone. But I really am looking forward to zoning out and sleeping while someone else answers the thousand "why" questions that I have to answer on a daily basis.

Six random things

Okay, just to do something a little bit different for me, I am going to play along and tell you six random things about myself. No, I was not tagged, but thought this could be a great way for you to get to know me a little bit more.

1. I iron my pillowcases and spray them with linen spray. (I am southern, you know!)

2. I rarely lose anything, because I can remember where I put everything down to the side of the cabinet and what it is next to.

3. I am obsessed with dental floss. I do it every night and probably have 3 little spools of it in my purse, just in case.

4. I think I have as many patterns as I do fabrics. Now, that is scary!

5. Speaking of scary....I cannot watch scary movies. I am a very jumpy person and I don't need to be more so. I don't think I have watched a scary movie since college.

6. I like sherbert more than ice cream. ( I know this one is lame, but my house is quiet and that is scary when you have a 4 year old!)

So, there are my little quirks! Okay, off to see what Sydney is doing to poor Lancer! I think I hear a teaparty going on.

Photography is from Sydney's perspective of craft day last week. She loves these foamy things my friend Carol keeps sending her.

Apples and Pears

This is another one for back to school. This is using the same peasant blouse as in this dress. I love the colors in this one and the cute large pockets are fun!

I think I am having soo much fun this year with her back to school wardrobe. I am turning a theme of one day into a whole season. I sure hope she doesn't tire of seeing apples.

I have a couple more things in this theme and the I will break into my winter wardrobe. I have some pinks and purples already waiting for me. But I have to be in a knit sewing mood to start on them, and I just can't get motivated for that right now. I have apples calling my name still.

More Apples

Here is the latest in the apple saga I have going on. This is from Ottobre Summer 2008. I loved this dress in the magazine, but I had to really think to put it together. There were some strange things it wanted me to do, but they all worked out and I am very pleased with the outcome. I may have to make another one of these fast before I forget what it said to do in the directions.
I was sooo excited that I got Sydney to wear two braids. I am always begging for her to wear them and she always tells me no. So today I told her that she had to because the apple ponytail holders were just too darn cute! And she bought it! Yeah! Score one for Mommy!
Please ignore the shoes. For school she will be wearing darling little red mary janes. But, hey, it's hot and August so I didn't complain.
Okay, off to make more apple things.
