Pink and Green for Spring

Okay, I like cool weather as much as the next polar bear, but come on, month after month of cold weather is just too much for me. So I went to my sewing room and "pretended" that it was warm and Spring like. Only I am just too practical and I made these spring colors that she could wear in this chilly weather.
This first jumper is out of a beautiful pink floral corduroy. I am thinking that this will look much better on my happy child than this model. I am also thinking that next year when she is wearing uniforms this might be the one I go with. I can see this in navy with a white blouse. I am hoping it is cute on. Sydney is just all excited that she can dress herself in it. Love those buttons!

Don't you just love minkey? Well, I for one would wear it always if at all possible. I made Sydney a spring jacket to wear over all the pink and green outfits I have planned for this year. After I made it, she wore it the entire afternoon. I even had to take the scraps and stitch them together for a "blanklet" for Dolly.

I am really having fun with knits. I may never purchase another knit dress for Sydney. They are sooo easy to make myself. These coordinating fabrics were perfect for my theme for spring. I added a large S and she will be all set with a warm and cozy, yet springy outfit.

Pink and cozy!

It is soooo cold here. I am trying to keep Sydney warm. This is a bishop that made shorter into a top. The fabric is a brushed twill. It feels like the softest flannel you could ever imagine. I did a very simple geometric just in pinks. Then for the pants I had this wonderful 6-wale corduroy that was thick and warm. It was cold outside today, but Sydney was warm and cozy in this on our shopping trip.

Toothfairy pillow

I can't believe it, but my little one has her first loose teeth. She refuses to sleep with a pillow, so I knew about a year ago that I had better think of something else. Then AS&E #70 came this cute little toothfairy pillow. I ordered my kit immediately. And there it sat, and sat, and sat. Then about a week before Christmas she comes to me with a loose tooth! So between making cookies and making Christmas dresses for customers, and decorating, Christmas shopping and everything else, I smocked on this.

To give a scale here, this whole thing is a 5 inch square. So cute and little. Made out of silk dupioni it has a regal feel to it.

I can't believe it, but my little one has two loose teeth! They have been hanging on for about a month now and she refuses to even move them. So I guess we will wait until the adult teeth push them out before she will get to use this, but here it is.
All those small seed beads around her that are the fairy dust took me more than four hours alone. I am thinking this will be something that she can pass down to her daughter one day.

My new closet

This year I was determined to go thru all my "stuff" and get rid of unnecessary things. I have always loved seeing all those beautiful closets in magazines and I was determined to have one. So I tured my dark, overly crowded, terribly designed bedroom closet into this masterpeice!

I had the help of my handyman. Yes, I have a handyman on retainer! He is wonderful! So if you live in my neck of the woods and need anything done, he is the one to call! Anyway, I told him how we need to use the space and we drew this plan out.

While he layed out this beautiful cedar on the back walls and put together all these shelves, I sorted thru all our "stuff". I should be given a medal for all the clothes I donated to CHKD. But I was ruthless and got rid of everything that didn't fit. For my wonderful husband and for me. I also took the opportunity to get rid off all the clothes that my other half has that I have always hated. Hee-hee.
He used to wear dress shirts and ties everyday. Now, he only wears casual silk shirts with his companies logo on them, so all those nice shirts and ties went into another closet that was empty. Along with all his sports jackets. No need in them taking up room in here.

I also did the same thing with all my things. If I hadn't worn it in two years, I got rid of it. If it was a size that I was about 10 years ago, it went too. I figure if I shrink back down to that size, then I am pretty sure I would be wearing new clothes anyway, so why hang on?
I also only put out winter shoes. All summer shoes and shorts fit nicely into one rubbermaid container that I can switch out when that season comes around.
This closet took Rob (the handyman) from 8:30 in the morning to around 8:30 at night to do. It took me about that long to go thru all the clothes and sort them out in here. Which was wonderful because it got me going from one closet and cleaned out another one and then another one. So now, I only lack the top part of Sydney's closet and all the closets in my house look like they came out of a magazine.

Last night, my wonderful husband and I spent about 10 minutes just standing in our closet and taking deep breaths of the cedar and smiling!

New Year's Resolutions

Okay, so I have been thinking the past couple of weeks about what I want to accomplish this year. I figured that if I put it in writing then I might just stick to a couple of them. So, here goes...

  1. To organize this house. I plan on lots of cleaned out closets and trips to CHKD. I am starting with our master closet. I will post pictures as we go so you can see why this needs to be #1 on the list. Also, if you refer to this and just imagine that the whole house looks this messy then look at Annalenaland then you can see the organization jealousy bug has bitten me.
  2. Eat better and exercise more. Blah, blah, blah... I know, everyone has this on their list, but 2008 I just did not do the best in these departments and my figure is showing it. I am not a spring chicken anymore and I can't eat like I did in college and still look good. Unfortunately.
  3. Sew more fun things. This one is because there are so many fun projects that I did not make time for last year. And since we are redoing the house this year, then this one will be easy. I plan on some pillows and embroidered things in each room. Should be lots of fun.
  4. Blog more. Enough said on that one.
  5. Get published. I have been secretly wanting to get published for a while now. Well, I have some ideas and I must submit them if this one is ever going to happen. So this is the year!

Okay, so that's it. Short and sweet and easy to follow right? I thought so. Okay, off to cut something out in the sewing room. Everyone enjoy your New Year's Day!
