This year I was determined to go thru all my "stuff" and get rid of unnecessary things. I have always loved seeing all those beautiful closets in magazines and I was determined to have one. So I tured my dark, overly crowded, terribly designed bedroom closet into this masterpeice!
I had the help of my handyman. Yes, I have a handyman on retainer! He is wonderful! So if you live in my neck of the woods and need anything done, he is the one to call! Anyway, I told him how we need to use the space and we drew this plan out.
While he layed out this beautiful cedar on the back walls and put together all these shelves, I sorted thru all our "stuff". I should be given a medal for all the clothes I donated to CHKD. But I was ruthless and got rid of everything that didn't fit. For my wonderful husband and for me. I also took the opportunity to get rid off all the clothes that my other half has that I have always hated. Hee-hee.
He used to wear dress shirts and ties everyday. Now, he only wears casual silk shirts with his companies logo on them, so all those nice shirts and ties went into another closet that was empty. Along with all his sports jackets. No need in them taking up room in here.

I also did the same thing with all my things. If I hadn't worn it in two years, I got rid of it. If it was a size that I was about 10 years ago, it went too. I figure if I shrink back down to that size, then I am pretty sure I would be wearing new clothes anyway, so why hang on?
I also only put out winter shoes. All summer shoes and shorts fit nicely into one rubbermaid container that I can switch out when that season comes around.

This closet took Rob (the handyman) from 8:30 in the morning to around 8:30 at night to do. It took me about that long to go thru all the clothes and sort them out in here. Which was wonderful because it got me going from one closet and cleaned out another one and then another one. So now, I only lack the top part of Sydney's closet and all the closets in my house look like they came out of a magazine.

Last night, my wonderful husband and I spent about 10 minutes just standing in our closet and taking deep breaths of the cedar and smiling!
